Did Someone Say.....BANTU KNOTS!?

in News

When looking at protective styles that work for both adults and children……BANTU KNOTS have been a staple go-to style. The Zulu people of southern Africa originated Bantu knots, a hairstyle where the hair is sectioned off, twisted, and wrapped in a such a way that the hair stacks upon itself to form a spiraled knot. Bantu knots can be traced back to the 2nd millennium BCE throughout 1500 CE to what at the time was the Bantu speaking community that originated from Southern West Africa and spread out through Central, Eastern & Southern Africa during the Bantu migration .

They are made by twisting your hair around itself until it forms a knot that resembles a stack of tires. It is used as protective style for both natural and relaxed hair and is commonly used in overnight routines to preserve longer lasting and more defined curly styles.

Your Bantu knots can last you up to two weeks, and when you're ready to take them out, some can also enjoy a curled style called a knot-out, which is similar to a twist-out. To do so, release each knot carefully and separate them with your fingers to keep the curls they've created in place.

Know that Bantu-knot outs work best on damp or dry hair that has been stretched, so creating them right on wash day with fully wet hair may be a failure waiting to happen. This style is great for old hair that is not ready for wash day.
